Once again Stott is way off. From his thinking GOD used evolution, to this " we transform ourselves" If we could transform ourselves then christ died in vain 2 cor. 3:18 clearly tells us that it is done by the spirit! 2 thess. 3:2 col. 1:19-24 etc. We by keeping our faith in CHRIST and letting the SPIRIT change us and then we act on that transformation read eph. 2:10 we are his ( christs) workmanship created in christ for good works planned beforehand so that we can now walk in them.

Great post. I found your blog while searching for good examples of modeling Christ. I agree with you that we have been to easy on young men and urging and driving them to be like Christ. As you said you are getting closer to God recently look for the enemy to attack. He doesn't like it when Christian's remember their first love. Peace and Grace to you.

I think the simultaneous tension of Christ's love is replicated in close adult/child relationships. I love my daughter with all my heart exactly as she is, and no matter what she does. I am at the same time full of hope that I can help her realize her full potential for greatness, in any number of ways. I believe so fully in her capacity.

Culturally we write off a huge number of people as having any capacity for greatness, hence our resounding shock when one of "those" people becomes great. We think of them as exceptions to the rule. In many ways we've turned our low expectations from young women (<i>look, a female judge!</i>) to young men (<i>oh my, he's so good in language arts!</i>). That attitude is not reflective of Christ's love for us as His children. Loving them as they are and still believing in their ability to grow, that's what we're called to do.

Well, "too easy on our young men" is a vague enough complaint that anyone can redirect it according to our favorite topic, and therefore you get a lot of angry posts. Now that you're being more specific - "we're not raising young men to be like Christ" it sounds like - I would expect that complaints will be more specific and generally fewer.
