Short whine: UPDATED

It’s only in the past week that my hits have returned to the level they were at before I went on my three-week hiatus in January and early February. I’m back above 2000 unique visitors a day from a variety of sources (my old blog , which still shows up first on many searches, remains my #1 referrer; Pandagon remains #1 among active blogs). But my comments have dropped 50% even as the number of hits as returned to normal (excluding the spammers).

So, I haven’t declared a de-lurking day in a while (over a year); if you’re reading and not commenting, your “hi” is appreciated.

UPDATE: Thanks so much, everyone, it really is appreciated. And in answer to a question I’ve gotten here and via email, yes, I have a Facebook. But gosh almighty, it hoovers your time.

  11. 11 Oriscus

I’m here, just haven’t got anything much to say right now.
    Relax.

  12. 12 Lauren

I read via a bloglines feed, mostly at work, so commenting regularly takes way too much effort. :P

    But hi!

  13. 13 Hugo Schwyzer

    Thanks, folks, I feel better.

  14. 14 Romy

Hi! Relatively new lurker. Love your blog!

  15. 15 jinnan-tonnyx

Hi. I’m a regular lurker who finds your posts thought-provoking, but I don’t have a lot to say right now.

  16. 16 Amber

    I’m still reading.

  17. 17 jennyfields

Hi! I’d comment a lot more, but I work and go to school full time, so the fact that I even get to READ your blog is significant. We do love you Hugo :-) I do leave facebook wall comments from time to time. Those are succinct by nature.

  18. 18 Susan

Hi Hugo, I have lurked on this blog for several years, with the rare comment. Keep up the good work!

And facebook, what? Is there one?

  19. 19 Hugo Schwyzer

Oh yes, there is a “facebook”. Check it out at the obvious address. We’re all on it, more or less.

  20. 20 AnnaMaria

Hello! I’ve been reading for months now. I was linked to an article and I found it really interesting. I went to the home page to read more of your stuff and there was your picture, it was Hugo from Seekers!

  21. 21 Hugo Schwyzer

Yes, it is Hugo from Seekers! How are you? Where are you now?

  22. 22 charlotte

    Hey there!

And now, no whining any more, k?

  23. 23 Alex

Hi. Relatively new, but already loving your blog. Promise I’ll comment more when I have more time (which may very well be never).

  24. 24 Hugo Schwyzer

    No more, promise.

  25. 25 el

    hi!

  26. 26 Marian

    Hi, Hugo!

I read everyday via my Google Reader. I used to be a student at a community college in Northern California–Las Positas–so I’m always interested in what you have to say about your students. I transferred to a small liberal arts college and will graduate in 2009.

Now, back to my regularly scheduled lurking.

  27. 27 djw

I still read, Hugo, but I generally stop by once every 5 days or so and read it all at once (full disclosure, I skim posts on veganism). I don’t comment much these days not out of a lack of interest, but out of a serious effort to spend less of my valuable short time on this earth in the blogosphere. Still one of my favorite reads, though.

  28. 28 Jesster

    Heya!

  29. 29 Margaret

    Hi Hugo!
I also read you every day through Google Reader, but I’m not much of a commenter anywhere…if I started with that, it would take over my whole life. I’m enough of a reading addict as it is.
You may remember me from a couple of months back when I brazenly emailed you, desperately seeking hope regarding a person with (probably) NPD. I appreciate the thoughts you shared with me and have enjoyed reading your writing here ever since.

Hi! Not one to leave comments, but I do love the posts, particularly the ones that rattle me a bit.

  31. 31 kt

Hello Hugo, another long-time lurker coming out of the woodwork… Having become disenchanted with the feminist blogosphere recently, your blog always interests me and I read it regularly.

    xxx!

  32. 32 Sweating Through Fog

Hi Hugo - I’m still reading your blog almost every day!

  33. 33 Wilson

    Hi! Also from Google Reader.

  34. 34 Deepa

    Hello, now I’ve officially delurked.

  35. 35 Katie

    Hi! :)

  36. 36 AMG

    Hello,

I’ve commented here occasionally, but as I read you at work normally, don’t always find the time to craft the witty, trenchant, commentary that I want to make…(actually if I had all day I don’t imagine the commentary would be that witty or on point, but…)

Keep up the good work–more posts on running please. You get to run outdoors all year round and here in TO, it’s freezing and has too much snow…

  37. 37 Jessica

Hi from a Chicago lawyer and occasional reader.

  38. 38 plunky

Read often, comment less. I find you interesting, but hardly ever agree with you. Also, it seems that comments from men who are not in-line-with-the-big-mainstream-feminist-blogger-type-people are often silenced here, so therefore the reading with no commenting.

  39. 39 Anna

Hi! Regular reader, typical lurker here from over the pond.

  40. 40 Erin C.

*waves* I’ve posted here very occasionally, but mostly I lurk. I’m still reading, though!

  41. 41 Amanda

I rarely comment on blogs, but yours is one of the few I read nearly every time I open Bloglines. Your posts are regularly thought-provoking, and have been responsible for not a few stimulating real-life conversations. My favorite part, however, is the Thursday Short Poem. I haven’t studied poetry in any formal way unless you count 10th grade English class, but I love finding poems that speak to me. Many of the ones you post do. I’ve often thought that I’d like to read more poetry, but I don’t have any idea where to start, so I just read a poem here every week!

  42. 42 Karen

    Hi Hugo,

I’ve read your thought-provoking posts and sometimes comment. Some of your posts hold more significance to me than others. I’d like to comment more, but don’t always have the time. I appreciate your posts.

  43. 43 aphrael

Hi, Hugo: I’m reading sporadically (working and going to school leave little time for weblog reading), but rarely feel I have something to contribute, so usually stay silent.

  44. 44 Lisa

‘allo. Although sometimes I do comment.

  45. 45 sneha

    a hearty holla!

  46. 46 XtinaS

    Hello.

  47. 47 chemgirl

    hi!

  48. 48 Michelle

I’m not sure how I first came across this blog (pandagon? some vegan thing?). It’s interesting to read the blog of a person I have a lot in common with (veganism, feminism, exercise-ism) and yet do not (not a Christian, not a West Coaster, not a pet lover).
    Always a thought-provoking read.

  49. 49 alice

Late to the party, but hi!

  50. 50 christy

Not sure if I’ve ever commented before. Hi. :)

  51. 51 Julie

Hi. I’m a regular lurker and missed you while you were gone!

  52. 52 Jenny

    I’m a regular lurker.

The reason I read your blog isn’t that I agree with you always - it’s because the way you look at the world is sufficiently similar and sufficiently dissimilar that I’ll need to think about how I look at the world.

There’s also, of course, the reason for my reading any blog - or, indeed talking to people at all. I don’t know and can’t know what it’s like to live your life. But by reading your writing I get some idea of things I would otherwise know nothing about. I’m big on the “know yourself” thing, but since I’m a part of the world that also means I should know as much as I can about being not-me, too.

  53. 53 occhiblu

Hello! Occasional lurker who loves your thoughts, especially on masculinity.

  54. 54 Kathryn

Hi, I read here but don’t comment or read the comment threads. I find enough MRA vitriol in the real world, thanks all the same.

  55. 55 glt

As a religious vegan female I appreciate seeing a religious vegan feminist blogger. Keep it up!
