However, I think that Vanessa may have felt that Chuck's presence in her life was largely... transgressive. He encourages her to drink underage and use illegal drugs. So he encourages her to break legal-societal rules to have fun, but not, apparently, sexual-societal rules. There are ways to be close to young women without plying them with substances. And relying on substances to signify closeness really sends the wrong message altogether. I mostly agree with this post.
