I’m off to Northern California again for the holiday weekend; posting resumes Tuesday. Like 8 gazilion other folks, I fell in love with #8 after hearing it used in the MacAir ad; the lyrics are remarkably, well, kabbalistic. #3 is my favorite Elton John song, #7 a sparkling cover, and the bonus track from one of those artists I found while listening to Sirius satellite radio.
1. “Non je ne regrette rien”, Edith Piaf
2. “Far Away Eyes”, Rolling Stones
3. “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters”, Elton John
4. “My Shirt Looks Good on You”, Catie Curtis
5. “When the Angels Call My Name”, Lonesome Sisters with Rayna Gellert
6. “Small”, Kendall Payne
7. “Love’s Gonna Live Here”, Dwight Yoakam
8. “New Soul”, Yael Naim
9. “Without Love”, Meat Purveyors
10. “Please Read the Letter”, Allison Krauss and Robert Plant
Bonus Track: “If They Could Only See Me Now”, Robbie Fulks
Hugo-As you are celebrating the possibilities of your 41st journey around the sun, I am thinking about the message of peace being broadcast via satellite to the Middle East. On this Memorial Day, May 26, 2008, members of the Abrahamic Faith Communities will meet to stand with prayerful solidarity and will express a message of unity, truth and peace.
May 26th
11 AM-12:30 PM
All Saints Church
132 N. Euclid Avenue, Pasadena
Sponsored by the Abrahamic Faiths Peacemaking Initiative…a unique opportunity to make our united voices heard across the globe. Join Muslims, Jews, and Christians from throughout Los Angeles for a service of song, peace and prayer, led by Rev. George Regas, Maher Hathout, and Rabbi Sharon Brous.
This unique celebration is meant as a message of peace to our brothers and sisters suffering the worst effects of violence justified by religion. It will be edited into a 28-minute film and broadcast via satellite in the Middle East to demonstrate the willingness to live and worship in peace among the Abrahamic faiths. We need you to be present for this historic moment offering this message of hope! If you can give ninety minutes of your time this Memorial Day, please come pray and hope with us.
We respectfully ask that you do not wear the American flag on your clothing for this prayer service, because it is perceived as a symbol of suffering and violence to many people in the Middle East.
The Students for Social Justice did an amazing job with the memorial on the lawn at PCC. It would be good if this student organiztion received the attention it deserves. Every gesture counts.
