Sheena, among the many casualties of my reckless affairs with various students in the past were precisely those students with whom I wasn't involved -- but who, upon discovering the "truth" about my bad behavior (I was stunningly indiscreet), were disillusioned and often disgusted.

I would love to know what the students you had your "affairs" with think about you now. As a recent student, it's hard to imagine what you were like before. Honestly, it just horrifies me to think about a professor hitting on me, mostly because unlike so many of the women you write about I am mostly interested in guys my own age (early, almost mid twenties). So much of your feminism today seems so closely tied to, as you always put it, "being safe". You do a great job being safe for someone like me, but if I had been your student back when you weren't, I don't know... I think even if you had never been untoward with me, if I had found out you had been with other girls,, I would have hated you. Not out of jealousy, even though you're a great teacher, but out of seeing such sheer and complete hypocrisy.

This is a long way of saying I think you're awesome now, and am just so happy I didn't know you back then.
