You and your little one look so cute! Does your family still ranch and raise cattle?
Beautiful shot; lovely, powerful short piece!
Thanks, you two! Seana, we do indeed still have the ranch but it’s become more of a noun and less of a verb, thank goodness. We do still lease some of our land for cattle, and their grazing does help keep the grass down and reduce our fire danger. But alas, we’re still involved to one degree or another in the beef industry.
Completely off topic, I’m not sure where else to respond to your curiosity:
“Curious as to know why you identify as an Animal Welfare-ist rather than an Animal Rights supporter, given that your posts seem to place you closer to the latter position…
But in the end, we’re all on the same team fighting the same fight!”
I support animal welfare reform, animal rights, animal advocacy, vegan outreach, etcetc. I support anything I believe will eliminate the most suffering and support the most humane standards. I support welfare-ism and abolitionism as I think both are indeed fighting for the same cause, and both are indeed effective with different people.
I personally have experienced a lot of hostility from others who are completely turned off of the idea of animal rights because of extremests who they consider unreasonable and crazy hippies. I know that this is generally not true, but in my experience I’ve found that people respond much more to non-extreme advocacy tactics. I’ve seen people working for the same cause that take different approaches (such as welfarism vs abolitionism) criticize each other publicly and it’s really detrimental for both individuals as well as for the whole movement. As you said, “in the end, we’re all on the same team fighting the same fight!”
Thanks for reading and commenting!
